Successful ‘Emmetteers in Carmarthen and Cowbridge

January and February have been very busy for me – with two wonderful Emm- Tech courses completed for 10 new ‘Emmetteers’ in Carmarthen and Cowbridge. It was lovely to meet you all and I hope you’re all using your new found skills to the max.
Next Swansea Emm-Tech  dates – now booking for March 20th and 27th

The Swansea course starts on March 20th at the newly opened Revue Studios in central Swansea and there are still some places left – do hurry if you want to be amongst the first in Swansea to learn these wonderfully simple techniques to use for family and friends or to enhance your existing therapeutic skills.
Next Carmarthen Emm-Tech dates – now booking for April 10th and 17th

The next course in Carmarthen will be at Alliance Therapy, Blue street. This is a great venue for small practically based courses like ours and I am happy to be offering another course in April. A couple of keen individuals are already booked – so don’t be shy – get your application in now.

Every Body’s Better is now your local stockists for Welsh Honey and Beeswax products

Really exciting is the fact that I am now an official stockist in West Wales for the wonderful natural Welsh Honey and Beeswax based products developed and produced by Lisvane bee keepers – Nature’s Little Helpers. Having used one of their hand balms over the past year I was very impressed with how well it worked for my busy [and usually dry] therapist’s hands.  See www.natureslittlehelpers.co.uk
The range currently includes a range of hand, body and foot balms; lip balms; cold processed soaps and pure beeswax candles. My personal favourites include a fantastic Lemongrass and Geranium Hand Balm which leaves a wonderful soft feel to my hands [but also elbows and knees!]; an orange lip balm, which once applied seems to last for hours; and a lovely citrus soap which smells of tangerines. The candles are also a firm favourite and even though they are unscented I find that by adding two drops of my favourite essential oil to the very top of the beeswax this lets me tailor make a fragrant candle.
My friend and colleague Deb, also tried the fantastic Peppermint Foot Balm during a foot massage and her client was delighted with the result. The Lemongrass and Geranium hand balm was used during a hand massage and also proved a great hit.
I can send you a flyer for the products that are currently available and will have a permanent stock in Carmarthen, Llandeilo and Sketty for purchase at any time. I will be carrying a small stock with me to Cowbridge and also will have the full range of products available when I attend fayres, special events and courses.
If you would like something specific I would be grateful if you could contact me by e-mail so that I can make sure the product that you want is available.
They make great gifts for Mother’s Day / Easter / Birthdays – but also as a ‘from me to me’ treat. With prices starting at £1.10 for a small candle and reaching a maximum of around £6 for a hand balm – use as a regular product!

Tips on Back and Shoulder pain - specifically for people who carry handbags, briefcases and backpacks [i.e. nearly everyone at some time or another!!]

Ø Carrying a bag that is ill suited to your needs, is too heavy or an inappropriate design can help cause or exacerbate a back or shoulder problem. Most of us know this – but few of us thing it applies to us – or that it will have an impact on our bodies.
Ø Most of us think that bags are easy to carry and to pick up. However, thoughtless action in lifting a heavy bag or brief case e.g. with a twisting or over-reaching action can lead to muscles being put under considerable strain.
Ø With everything that we now carry – laptop?; mobile?; diaries? ; purse?; i-pod?; i-pad?; make-up bag?; bags are getting heavier and heavier.
Ø With more and more people having to carry ‘stuff’ around to outside work locations or other offices then we are often asked to carry papers / display items / files and some of us also carry some of the largest bags – containing our therapy tables or chairs!! The problems then multiply.
Ø The long standing joke about women’s handbags becomes a serious issue if it is causing postural imbalance because it is carried on the same shoulder.
Ø But this is also important for men / women who need their brief cases but who find it ‘silly’  or ‘embarrassing’ to transfer the contents of their cases to a back pack to keep their backs healthy.

Some tips then on carrying bags:
  •  If you carry a bag on one shoulder it should not exceed 10% of your body weight and you should swap shoulders or hands regularly
  • Try picking up your bag and placing it on a chair or table then place it on your back rather than lifting it straight up from the floor
  • Do not overfill your bag
  • Place the strap across your body rather than on one shoulder – spreading the load more effectively
  • Use a back pack so that your loads are spread evenly over both shoulders – but don’t be tempted to carry the backpack by just the one strap!
  • Use a smaller bag so that you are not tempted to overfill it
  • Try using a bag with wheels if you often carry heavy loads to work
  • Use a therapy couch cover with wheels if you are taking your chair or table to clients’ homes or to events
  • Think ‘manual handling’ when it comes to lifting and carrying your bag – especially avoiding lifting whilst twisting or stretching.
  • Think before you lift anything.

Have a great month
